FOOT LOCKER

About

If you love sneakers then you definitely know about Foot Locker! FL is one of the most recognisable sneaker retailers in the world. They stock Nike, Adidas, Lacoste, Vans, etc… and they have some of the coolest collaborations with artists and sportspeople.

The Foot Locker brand is very basketball-focused and their core demographic is BBall sneaker freaks. For their newest store in Australia they got in touch with us to create their social media content for the launch.

Task

The newest Foot Locker store opened up in Westfield Carousel in Perth and there were a few things planned for the launch event. Firstly, Foot Locker teamed up with NBL basketball MVP Bryce Cotton, of the Perth Wildcats, to launch his clothing label “C11” at the same time they launched their store. A classic call for basketball fans in WA.

Plus Foot Locker also teamed up with local street artist HANDBRAKE to paint the artwork hanging above their entrance. It’s four metres long and painted in the FL signature colours of red, black, and white. It’s also full of sneakers, video games, pizza, etc. You know, stuff young people like.

Approach

We filmed the store empty just before they opened up the doors to customers, and then captured the moment the doors swung open and Bryce Cotton was mobbed by his fans. Unfortunately, because this is a COVID year the traditional “crazy throng” was replaced with “respectful social distancing” and “patient shopping”.

Without the heavy crowds that would normally be there our job was to showcase the new store and the huge range of sneakers available. The edits are very quick and social-media focused. Lots of whip transitions, flicker filters, film stock overlays, and a running Foot Locker border. Very on-brand.

Result

This square edit is just one part of an overall video content package we created. We also produced a number of Instagram stories, formatted 9:16, with the same edit style.

Also, it was all delivered within two days of the launch event happening. The lightning fast turnaround allowed Foot Locker to maximise their marketing momentum in Perth for the new store.
