Racing WA: Apprentice Jockey

Racing and Wagering WA are one of the most important bodies that provides support and a sustainable future for the horse racing industry in WA and train apprentice jockeys. They regulate the activities of jockeys, owners, and trainers to make sure everyone involved in racing is safe and taking care of their horses.

There are many myths surrounding jockeys so they called on us to debunk a few of them.

RWWA recognised that not many people knew much about being an apprentice jockey. In fact there are a lot of misconceptions about what it’s like to have that career. So they got in touch with us to create a video explaining the real story. In a lighthearted way of course. The main aim of this video was to encourage young people to sign up for a jockey apprenticeship.

Veteran TV presenter Hans Bruechle was the host and he spent the day wandering Ascot Racecourse talking to jockeys of all ages.

Our hosted video content is always the most fun to film and regularly has the most views on social media because it’s entertaining. Our host Hans takes viewers on a tour of a normal horse racetrack and calls in to the jockey’s training room, locker room, and stalls.

If you’ve ever wondered why jockeys are so short we think the real reason might surprise you!

Racing WA achieved a lift in interest in their Jockey Apprenticeship program. A career as a jockey all of a sudden seemed like a really good idea. You get to travel the world, make great money, and work with animals. What’s not to love?
